Bio
Brian Woody, better known by the stage names Yung Kapo, Kapo the Don, and SMG Yung Kapo, was born on September 12, 1989, in Birmingham, Alabama. He made his first song ever at only three years old, and music has been part of his life ever since. Citing the likes of the Cash Money Hot Boyz, T.I., Young Jeezy and Yo Gotti as his influences, Kapo has been honing his skills in rapping and songwriting ever since that first song – resulting in a unique and powerful sound that is all his own yet remains true to the roots of Southern Hip-Hop. In January of 2020 Brian created and released his first studio-produced single, “Hard Knocks”, and the enterprising rapper and songwriter went on to become the founder and CEO of SteelCity Music Group, LLC (SMG).
Yung Kapo grew up in the violent streets of Ensley – an annexed town of Birmingham – where he received firsthand experience with violence, corruption, and often had run-ins with the law. After nine long years spent incarcerated and fighting for his freedom Yung Kapo got into music as an alternative route to the streets. A unique sense of drive and self-determination led Brian to successfully defend himself in multiple cases while still finding time to research the business side of the music industry – even while behind bars. After getting out of jail, he founded SteelCity Music Group in March 2019, where he signed himself as his first artist.
